Pausing Elective Care in Greater Manchester (4/1/22)

Hospitals in Greater Manchester have made the difficult decision to pause some non-urgent surgery and appointments due to the rising impact of COVID-19.

Patients who will be affected by this will be contacted by the hospital as soon as possible.

If you are not contacted by the hospital, please assume your treatment is continuing as planned. There is no need to contact the hospital or your GP practice for this information.

We understand how disappointing this will be for patients who have appointments or procedures affected, especially those who have already waited for some time, and we know people will be worried.

This is a temporary measure, and the aim is to impact the fewest number of patients. The situation will be reviewed on a regular basis so that procedures can resume as soon as possible.

Urgent treatments and cancer operations will continue to be prioritised and hospitals will continue to work together across Greater Manchester to care for patients so that everyone who needs urgent care and treatment, gets it.

This is a difficult decision and one that has not been taken lightly, but we’ve done it so we can keep people safe, can maintain the very best infection control measures, can make sure we deploy staff to where they’re needed most and can keep looking after people who need urgent and emergency care, including cancer treatment.

We would urge anyone with health concerns to continue to come forward for help and treatment in the usual way, using their local emergency department only for serious illnesses or injuries. Important Notice 13th December

Following the PM's speech this evening, it appears all GP practices are being asked to pause usual activity to urgently prioritise the COVID booster programme. We've only heard this news at the same time as you and we're awaiting further information from NHS England. We'll send further updates via SMS, Facebook and our website as soon as we can. In the meantime, PLEASE avoid contacting your GP practice unless absolutely necessary. Please contact or your pharmacy in the first instance.

Important Information for the 19th of July

Throughout the pandemic we have strived to make the surgery as safe as possible for our patients, staff and visitors. We have remained open throughout and will continue to do so. However, from the 19th July 2021 we need your help to continue to do so.

Nothing is going to change here at Dial House or Ellesmere Medical Centres, please still wear your mask when visiting the surgery and when inside the building. Please use the hand sanitisers available and keep your distance from others.

We appreciate this is frustrating but we know that when sick and vulnerable patients come to see us (remember some of these cannot have the vaccines) they need to be protected, so it would be wrong of us to remove the precautions we have in place.

The pandemic is not over and COVID 19 has not gone. Please help us to continue to keep you all safe.

Covid-19 Vaccination status for international travel

From 17 May 2021, people in England who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. Vaccine status will be available from: 

It may take more than a week for your identity to be checked and verified so you can use this service.

If you cannot access the online services, and you have had 2 vaccines, you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119. Only call 119 if you are due to travel abroad in the near future and have had your second dose more than 5 working days ago. It may take 7 working days for the letter to arrive.

This practice is not able to provide you with a letter that shows your COVID-19 vaccination status.

When you're planning your travel, check the latest information on demonstrating your COVID-19 status when travelling abroad on the website. Make sure there is time to get proof of your vaccination status before you leave.

Please be aware we have remained open throughout the COVID19 pandemic and will continue to do so.

In order to ensure we can continue to provide a primary care service to our patients, we made the following adjustments which remain in place:

1) All GP appointments are booked initially as a telephone consultation. The GP will offer you a face to face appointment if they feel they cannot treat you effectively over the phone. Due to infection control measures such as the changing and disposing of PPE and the cleaning of the clinical room after each patient, face to face appointments take twice as long as they used to, which is why we are doing as much as we can via the telephone or video. This approach ensures we can offer almost the same amount of appointments as we used to.

2) The patient entrance remains locked so we can ensure that only those who have a face to face appointment come into the Practice.

3) We temporarily suspended some routine services as per guidance from NHS England to minimise the risk of infection. Some of these services have now resumed so please call us if you are unsure of whether you can book an appointment for a particular procedure.

4) We are only offering appointments on the day at present. This ensures we do not have to cancel your appointment at short notice due to a GP being unwell or having to isolate.

5) We are asking all our patients who come to the surgery to wear a mask or face covering to help keep us all safe. Children under 11 are exempt from wearing a mask.
